Message from the Sheriff Most Wanted Fugitives Locate Registered Sex Offenders

Meriwether County (initially spelled Merriwether) is a county located in West Central Georgia and is considered part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Meriwether was created on December 14, 1827 and boasts 505 square miles with a population of approximately 23,000. Georgia's 71st county was named for former Georgia congressman David Meriwether (1755-1822).

The county seat of Greenville hosts the County Courthouse and the Sheriff's Office/Detention Center as well as several other county offices. The county includes the cities of Gay, Greenville, Luthersville, Manchester, Warm Springs, and Woodbury.

Meriwether County offers a variety of interests from our Cotton Pickin' Fair held the first weekend in May and October each year to the Roosevelt "Little White House" tour for the history enthusiast, or the Flint River and FDR State Park for those seeking more natural surroundings or adventures.
